Report an outageFrequently Asked Questions
-
Why is my online account showing usage on days I was without power?During periods of extended and widespread power outages, utility providers may provide preliminary usage estimates when they can’t read meters. If you see usage on days your home didn’t have power, your Transmission and Distribution Utility (TDU) should correct that soon.
-
Are there additional bill-payment assistance resources available?Yes, if you're not able to pay your bill, call 211 or visit 211texas.org to find out about TXU Energy Aid and other programs that can help.
-
What do I do if I lose power?
Take shelter in a safe area and avoid flooded areas or downed power lines. If you see a downed power line, call 911 to report it.
-
What should I do after my power comes back on?If your power is out for more than four hours, be prepared to throw away any food (particularly meat, poultry, fish, eggs, and leftovers) that is above 40° F or that has an unusual odor, color or texture.
-
How can I protect my electrical devices and have light during a power outage?
Use surge protector power strips to help avoid damage and protect your electronics in case the power goes out.
If the power goes out, you can create soft, room filling light by aiming a battery powered flashlight or headlamp into the opening of a clear, waterfilled gallon jug. The water diffuses the light and spreads it throughout the room. For safety, never place the light in the water and do not use any plugged-in or electric lighting devices.
-
Can I have more time to pay my bill?Yes, please call us if you need a little flexibility or would like to set up a longer-term payment plan at 800-242-9113.
