Dining out at select restaurants in the Farmers Branch, Carrollton, Addison and Coppell area this summer resulted in a major donation to Metrocrest Social Services. Restaurants participating in the agency’s Summer Monday program raised $2,600, which was then matched more than $5 to $1 by TXU Energy AidSM to deliver a total contribution of $15,000.
“Metrocrest helps families in need who often are on the brink of homelessness,” said Bunny Summerlin, executive director, Metrocrest Social Services. “Through the generosity of our donors, we can help families make it through a crisis and develop plans for a better future.”
The participating restaurants — Agave Azul, Fuzzy’s Taco Shop, Nico’s Cocina Mexican Grill and Bar, and Nuevo Leon Mex~Mex Restaurant — donated a portion of their Monday sales this summer to support Metrocrest and its mission to help local families.
“I’m glad that we were part of it and that the program was so successful,” said Zotico Reyes, owner of Agave Azul. “All the thanks go to our wonderful guests who showed up to support this cause.”
Last year, Metrocrest provided critical help to more than 12,000 families in Carrollton, Farmers Branch, Addison, Coppell and a portion of Denton County. Services include financial assistance with rent and utility bills, limited medical aid, food from the agency’s free-choice pantry and transportation vouchers. Metrocrest also helps individuals find work and offers other programs to move families toward self-sufficiency.
“Metrocrest works very hard to help families at their moment of greatest need, and the result is stronger communities,” said Kim Campbell, senior manager of customer advocacy for TXU Energy. “We are thrilled to be able to magnify the generosity of their local partners.”
TXU Energy AidSM is the nation’s largest bill payment assistance program from any electricity company. Since its launch in 1983, this program has distributed more than $66 million to more than 390,000 customers in need of temporary bill assistance.
