TXU Energy Announces Recipients of 2025 Energy Leadership Awards
Award recognizes three recipients in the categories of energy management, sustainability, and community leadership
10/1/2025
IRVING, Texas —
TXU Energy today announced its recognition of three North Texas organizations as category winners in the 2025 TXU Energy Leadership Award program. This program highlights corporate, nonprofit, and public service partners defining energy innovation and responsibility.
"TXU Energy is proud to recognize this year’s winners and their commitment to energy leadership. Together, they’ve proven smart energy management goes beyond just sustainability goals – it’s good business,” said Gabe Castro, senior vice president of business markets for TXU Energy. “This year’s winners are committed to serving their communities and stakeholders -- values we share at TXU Energy. We’re honored to recognize their achievements."
The three North Texas-area winners include:
Leadership in Energy Management – Mansfield Independent School District (ISD)
Mansfield ISD is a significant regional employer and proud community leader, serving more than 35,000 students across Mansfield, parts of Grand Prairie, Arlington, Burleson, and surrounding communities. Over the last five years, Mansfield ISD has demonstrated a continuous commitment to energy management and improved efficiency. The district has leveraged more than $80,000 in TXU Greenback rebate dollars to install LED lighting upgrades, lowering its energy use by 925,000 kWh each year.
Most recently, TXU Greenback rebate dollars were used to offset the cost of installing LED light poles at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts and the Ben Barber Innovation Academy. These upgrades are expected to deliver annual electricity savings of more than 350,000 kWh—a measurable outcome that supports safer, better lit campus environments while reducing energy consumption and costs.
Leadership in Sustainability – City of Mesquite
Known as “The Rodeo Capital of Texas,” the City of Mesquite is widely recognized for its vibrant communities, strong local economy, and proud traditions – including its commitment to environmental stewardship. The city has introduced initiatives focused on clean energy, water use, litter reduction, and community engagement. These efforts include a new water conservation plan, in partnership with the North Texas Municipal Water District, and resident-led efforts through the volunteer non-profit Keep Mesquite Beautiful.
TXU Energy is proud to power the City of Mesquite with 100% renewable energy. In 2024, the city backed its energy use with more than 27,000 MWh of renewable energy certificates, or RECs, reducing CO2e emissions by more than 9,000 tons.
Leadership in Community – Irving Cares
TXU Energy is proud to recognize Irving Cares, a founding TXU Energy AidSM partner. For more than 40 years, TXU Energy and Irving Cares have served customers in crisis through bill payment assistance.
