The Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center, a social service organization of the City of Dallas, presented TXU Energy with its Corporate Award on Friday, its highest recognition for corporate partners. TXU Energy Chief Executive Officer Jim Burke accepted the award.
"TXU Energy is deeply honored to receive the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center Corporate Award," said Burke. "We look forward to continuing our long-standing relationship with the Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and providing assistance and training to the local community."
The award recognizes TXU Energy's support of the center, as well as the TXU Energy Aid program and Energy Assistance Workshops. The center, which is located in South Dallas, provides social service, educational and recreational opportunities to all citizens in the City of Dallas.
The TXU Energy Aid program provides bill payment assistance to thousands of Dallas families in critical need each year. Using contributions from TXU Energy and its generous customers and employees, selected social service agencies across Texas administer funds to families requiring assistance to pay for their residential electric service. Since 1983, TXU Energy Aid has provided more than $40 million in bill payment assistance helping more than 300,000 families.
The TXU Energy Assistance Workshops provide social service organizations education and training regarding electric service and assistance plans, including information about TXU Energy, the electricity market, TXU Energy service plans, and TXU Energy's commitment to the community, especially TXU Energy Aid, and the TXU Energy Low Income Discount. The City of Dallas participates through its Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Center and its West Dallas Multipurpose Center.
