Factors That Can Affect Your Electricity Invoice

Understanding Your Bill

One of the first ways to understand your business electricity bill is by closely reviewing all the charges and line items on it, including energy charges (kWh), base charges, TDU delivery charges, demand charges (if applicable), taxes and any fees or adjustments. (You can learn about these charges and line items here.) Knowing what each part of your bill means can help you manage your company’s energy costs and identify opportunities to save.

Understanding Cycle Length

A billing cycle is the number of days between meter reads that are included in each bill. The number of days can change each month but will usually be between 25 days and 35 days. The length of the billing cycle varies based on several things, some of which include the number of days in each month, when weekends and holidays fall and whether or not your meter is accessible to the meter reader.
