Company Pays More than $30 Million in Rewards to Customers, Launches Online Program to Support Charitable Giving
Paying it forward. That's what TXU Energy customers may be thinking about thanks to the TXU Cash Back Loyalty Rewards program and a new online giving site that the company launched today: TXU Energy Local ImpactSM. The innovative new site offers customers a simple, convenient way to give some or all of the cash rewards they have earned on their annual electricity purchases to charities serving their local communities. The site goes live just as hundreds of thousands of TXU Energy customers across Texas are about to receive their loyalty payments from 2010.
Over the next few weeks the company will distribute more than $30 million via Visa® prepaid cards to customers enrolled in TXU Energy electricity plans eligible for cash back. Participating customers can spend their reward dollars as they choose - including paying their electric bills, shopping, or donating them to charity through TXU Energy Local Impact.
If they choose to, customers can visit txu.com/localimpact and choose from charities that are focused on environmental sustainability, emergency aid/relief efforts, and education. Among other charitable choices, the site also allows donors to give to TXU Energy AidSM*, a program that provides bill payment assistance to customers in need.
The site also estimates the local impact of customers' donations in terms of real-world supplies and materials for charities. For example, donating $50 translates to planting roughly 2.5 trees or providing 8.3 blankets to shelters for relief efforts.** Customers can also promote their activities through social media elements - including mapping donations and sharing content with friends via Facebook, Twitter, and email.

TXU Energy Local Impact is available to customers 24/7, any time throughout the year. The site accepts multiple forms of payment and automatically sends a contribution receipt for tax return purposes.
When TXU Energy launched Cash Back Loyalty Rewards in 2007, it became the first electricity provider to provide a cash back loyalty program based on customers' annual electricity purchases. In less than four years, the company has already rewarded more than $60 million to its loyal customers.
Customers on TXU Energy Texas Choice plans get three percent cash back in the form of a Visa® prepaid card that they can spend or donate as they choose. These plans also include either 10 or 100 percent renewable energy and price protection for up to two years. * TXU Energy Aid has provided more than $66 million in bill payment assistance, helping over 390,000 families in need, since the program began 28 years ago. For every $1 donated, TXU Energy contributes approximately $5 and returns 100% of the funds to the local communities. In addition to customer and employee donations, TXU Energy will contribute $5 million annually through 2012 to the TXU Energy Aid program.
