TXU Energy, Customers and Employees Contribute $5 Million to Help Texans in Need of Bill Payment Assistance

4/11/2007

TXU Energy is pleased to announce that in an effort to aid those most in need throughout 2007, TXU Energy will contribute $5 million, in addition to donations from customers and employees, to help local residents with bill payment assistance.

"Hardships like a job loss, medical illness, or death in the family can create unexpected financial difficulties for anyone. Our customers have consistently been there for us. We believe it is important that we be there for them, and our TXU Energy Aid program has been the hallmark of our commitment," said Jim Burke, CEO of TXU Energy.

In order to help families in critical situations meet their electricity needs, TXU Energy has developed a long-standing, successful community assistance initiative, called TXU Energy Aid. Since 1983, TXU Energy Aid has provided more than $40 million in bill payment assistance, helping more than 300,000 families throughout the state of Texas.

TXU Energy's signature program is able to provide financial support to TXU Energy customers through selected social service agency partners throughout the state. These agencies administer the funds to low-income families requiring assistance to pay for their electricity.

"We are so thrilled to have TXU Energy's continuous support," said Scott Orr, President of Christian Community Action. "The company's kindness and generosity is gratefully valued and most of all, appreciated by the families we assist. Without TXU Energy's generous donations, many families in our community would be without electricity in their homes."

All employee and customer donations are returned to the local communities in which they are donated to help those in need. Donations are tax-deductible. TXU Energy distributes the $5 million, along with employee and customer contributions, back to local communities at a ratio of approximately $5 for every $1 locally donated.

TXU Energy customers who want to make a contribution to help others in their community can contact the TXU Energy Aid contribution line at 1-877-281-6359, or send an e-mail to energyaid@txu.com. Customers can also make a one-time contribution or a recurring pledge to TXU Energy Aid by completing the information on the back of their TXU Energy bill.

TXU Energy recently lowered prices for most residential customers in its traditional service areas (where it formerly offered the Price to Beat rate) by 6 percent, furthering its position as the lowest-priced incumbent in the competitive areas of Texas and in time for the higher usage summer months. Assuming the successful completion of the proposed merger under which an investor group led by Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. and Texas Pacific Group will acquire TXU Corp., these rates would be lowered an additional 4 percent with price protection through September 2008.
