Choice is good. You exercise your freedom of choice every time you step into the voting booth, so making sure you register to vote in Texas should be one of your first priorities. You can exercise your freedom of choice when it comes time to select your energy provider, as well. Texas is one of the few states that gives you a choice of electricity providers, and TXU Energy is proud that more Texans choose us than any other provider.
We also strive to make your move to, or within, Texas an easy one, so we're happy to provide this information on how to register to vote in Texas.
It’s Easy to Register to Vote in Texas.
You can register to vote in Texas if you are at least 17 years and 10 months of age and a U.S. citizen. Once you register, you shouldn’t have to do it again unless you move to a new county. Begin the process with a Texas Voter Registration application, available at several locations, including the:
- County voter registration office
- County drivers license office
- Public library
- Office of the Secretary of State of Texas
The application will require you to have proper identification. This can be your state-issued Texas driver's license number or, alternatively, using the last four digits of your Social Security number. If you don't have either, you'll need to note that on your application. When finished, you can either mail it to your Voter Registrar or drop it by their local office.
Don’t Miss Out on Your Chance to Vote!
Don’t wait until the last minute. In order to vote in an upcoming election, you must complete your voter registration application at least a month before the election date. Your registration must be postmarked 30 days before the upcoming election to be valid.
Ready to Vote.
Once you receive your voter registration certificate in the mail, you can take it with you to the polls. Choosing TXU Energy as your electricity provider is even easier. See how we help you find the right plan for your needs.
