Moving can be a really exciting time, with new experiences, opportunities for fun and great friends to be made. If you've made a recent move to Texas – or you moved to a new city – let TXU Energy help you maintain that excitement with all the day-to-day adventures you can find in these practical tips.
Go Out and Meet Your Neighbors.
Maybe it's an obvious step, but sometimes it helps to be reminded of the basics. Whether you go to neighborhood association meetings or just invite some folks over for a cookout, getting to know your new neighbors is an easy way to start being part of your new community. Texas churches, synagogues and civic groups are also great places to start putting down new roots.
Turn Fitness into Social Opportunities.
Love a good workout? Fitness is a healthy and fun way to get connected to your community, meet some new people and get to know the lay of the land. Texas weather is perfect for all kinds of sports and a variety of activities, so when you move to Texas, look for local groups that match your interests. Whether it's a running club in Dallas, a softball league in Round Rock or a bicycling club in Houston – or whatever sport or activity you're into – chances are good that you can find a local club or league.
You could also just take fitness classes at the local gym. If yoga's your thing, for example, lots of studios in the Hill Country area participate in the Free Day of Yoga. You’ll likely find the same thing in Houston and Dallas as well.
Set Up Your Utilities.
Depending on where your new Texas home is, you most likely have a choice when it comes to your electricity provider. As the #1 choice for electricity in the Lone Star State, TXU Energy is here to help you find an electricity plan that fits your needs. You'll appreciate our responsive and knowledgeable residential customer care representatives, and we're available 24/7. Sign up online and or visit the TXU Energy Move Center for more information.
Register Your Vehicle.
Like most other states, you'll need to register your vehicle(s) within 30 days after you move to Texas. All you need is a Texas driver's license, and if you've got your valid out-of-state license, you can actually skip the written and driving exams. You just need to pass a vision test. Make sure your insurance company knows your new address as well. Then, get ready to hit the road and discover Texas.
Explore the State and Your Surroundings.
The best way to enjoy Texas might just be getting out there and seeing what all you can see. There are vast stretches of wild prairies and lakes that surround the bustling Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex; acres of gently rolling hills deep in the heart of Texas near Austin and Fredericksburg; wide-open plains with endless skylines up in the panhandle near Amarillo; dense pockets of serene woodlands in east Texas near Livingston and Jefferson; miles of gorgeous beaches in Corpus Christi and Galveston; and even an enormous desert in west Texas to explore. And no matter where you go, you're never too far from that famous Texas hospitality.
What you'll soon find is that, while Texas is home to a lot of folks who aren't necessarily "Texans," everybody's welcome, and we're glad to share our great state with you. TXU Energy is here to help, so don't hesitate to get in touch if you need us. Welcome home!
