What is Green Button?
Green Button is a program and functionality that allows you to securely download your electricity usage data in a standardized format. This national initiative is industry-led in response to a prompt from the federal government. TXU Energy customers have been able to view, track and manage their usage through TXU Energy MyEnergy DashboardSM, well ahead of the launch of the Green Button program. Now, TXU Energy customers can not only use those robust reporting features, such as TXU Energy Export to Excel, but they can also receive their usage data through the Green Button.
What information will I see in my Green Button data files?
You will see your electricity usage (Watt-hours) and cost breakdown for the time period you specified to view.
What are the benefits of using Green Button?
Green Button provides you access to view your electricity usage data in a data format common among all Green Button participants. You can choose to use your Green Button electricity usage data with different Web and Smartphone applications. Viewing your electricity usage data helps you better manage your usage and habits, which can help lower your electricity bill.
How do I access Green Button?
Simply log in to TXU Energy MyAccount on txu.com and navigate to TXU Energy MyEnergy DashboardSM where you will find the Green Button icon located at the bottom right corner of the Usage Graph. You can also access Green Button by clicking the menu titled Graph Options, located underneath the Green Button icon in the Usage Graph, and selecting the Download Green Button Data link.
To navigate to TXU Energy MyEnergy DashboardSM from MyAccount, you have two options. You can either:
1) Select the Manage MyAccount tab at the top of the page and click the MyEnergy DashboardSM link under the “Bills & Usage” title.
2) Click the Go to MyEnergy DashboardSM link located on the upper right hand corner of the “My Usage Graph.”
What if I have more than one location that TXU Energy provides service to?
If you have more than one location on your TXU Energy account that you would like to download Green Button information from, you must choose the ESI ID number from the dropdown menu titled, “Select an account to view details” located at the top of the MyEnergy DashboardSM page and download the data for each ESI ID. Your ESI ID is the number associated with your specific service address.
Is Green Button available for small to medium Business accounts?
Yes. Green Button is available for residential and small to medium business accounts. You can view the small to medium business FAQs for more specific information.
How do I download my electricity usage data from Green Button?
Once you click on the Green Button icon, a pop up screen will appear. Here you’ll select your criteria for each of the key report elements:
1) Date Range – choose the Start Time and End Time of the amount of electricity usage data you want to view.
2) Time Interval – choose a Monthly, Daily or Hourly view of the electricity usage data you want to view. If you don’t have a Smart Meter, only the Monthly Time Interval will be available.
Once you’ve made your selections, click the Download File button on the bottom right hand corner of the Green Button pop up screen. Your download will be provided in an XML format in a zip file.
How do I download a zip file from Green Button?
Once you click on the Download File button on the Green Button pop up screen, select the Save option when prompted, select a location on your computer to download the zip file and select Save. Locate the saved file and right click on it to select Extract All Files option in the drop down menu. Once your files are extracted you can open the XML file. This process may be different depending on your Internet Web browser and computer download settings.
What is in the zip file download I receive from Green Button?
When you download your electricity usage data via Green Button, you will receive a zipped file with both an XML file and XSL file included. The XML file will open via a Web page in your Internet Web browser in a readable format. The XSL file simply supports the XML file. We recommend you open the XML file to view your electricity usage data.
The zip file can be saved to your desktop depending on your Internet Web browser and computer download settings:
a. Google Chrome – the zip file will automatically download to your “Downloads” folder.
b. Safari – the zip file will automatically download to your desktop.
c. Mozilla Firefox – a dialog box will appear for you to open or save your zip file.
d. IE8 – a dialog box will appear for you to open or save your zip file.
e. Opera – a dialog box will appear for you to open or save your zip file.
What if I want to view my electricity usage data in Excel?
This feature, called Export to Excel, is available to all TXU Energy customers with MyAccount. Simply log in to MyAccount on txu.com and navigate to MyEnergy DashboardSM. In the bottom right corner of the Usage Graph, click the menu titled Graph Options and select the Export to Excel link. A CSV file will be downloaded and opened using Excel.
Is my electricity usage data secure when I download from Green Button?
Yes. In order to download your electricity usage data from Green Button you must first log into TXU Energy’s secured website, at txu.com, using your username and password to ensure a secure connection.
Can anyone, other than myself, access the data files I download from Green Button?
No. TXU Energy has a commitment to maintain the privacy of our customers, and we will not deliver your electricity usage data to a third party. You can only download your electricity usage data by logging into txu.com using your username and password.
Can I still download from Green Button if I don’t have a Smart Meter?
Yes, because Green Button is not dependent on the Smart Meter. However, you’ll only be able to download your monthly electricity usage data instead of daily or hourly data.
What are the minimum requirements to download Green Button?
You must have at least one month of electricity usage data with TXU Energy.
