We sometimes request that customers pay a deposit depending on a review of their Utility Payment Data, which is based on their history of paying utility bills.

Deposits are necessary to protect retail electric providers (REPs) against unpaid accounts. It helps control costs, which benefits all customers by helping keep rates lower.

If you are required to pay a deposit, your deposit will earn interest at a rate established by the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) and, after all bills are fully paid with no late payments for 12 consecutive months, will be refunded back to you with any interest earned as a credit to your electricity bill.

There are also some circumstances in which deposits may be waived. Qualifying low-income customers are eligible to pay deposits over two equal installments. Customers are eligible to have their deposit waived if they are 62 years of age or older, or if they are a victim of family violence as certified by a prescribed letter, or if they are medically indigent and submit the necessary proof. Additional waivers are available. Please call 1-888-398-5370 to learn more and see if you qualify.
