Sweepstakes Winner Savors $10,000 in Extra Cash for Posting on Facebook
Contest Celebrates Five Years and $100 Million in Cash Back for Texas Electricity Customers
What does $10,000 taste like? One food-savvy Texas electricity customer and her family will find out sooner rather than later, now that she has won the TXU Energy Cash Rewards Sweepstakes. Deborah Stewart shared on Facebook that if she won this kind of extra cash, she would remodel her kitchen to better fit her family life and her passion for cooking. Her comment entered her in the sweepstakes, and she has been randomly selected as the grand-prize winner.
Stewart is a 30-year TXU Energy customer who lives in Waco, Texas. She joined TXU Energy today in her home to celebrate the new kitchen she and her family will soon enjoy thanks to the $10,000 check the company presented to her. The company is also providing Stewart with an energy efficiency expert to help ensure that her new kitchen is as energy efficient as possible since, according to the Department of Energy, home electronics and appliances like dishwashers, refrigerators and water heaters are responsible for roughly 20 percent of your electricity bill.
“When I first found out I won, I didn’t believe it,” said Stewart. “Before this, I don’t think I have ever won anything in my life! At first I didn’t tell anybody, not even my husband, because I thought it seemed too good to be true. After a few more calls and emails, I realized it was for real, and I was on cloud nine. This is great news, and it’s happening just as my husband and I celebrate our 35th anniversary. We’ve been TXU Energy customers for nearly all of our married life, and winning this is one more reason we’re glad we’ve stayed with them over all these years.”
The sweepstakes celebrated the company’s five-year, $100 million milestone in giving cash back to its customers through the Cash Back Loyalty Reward program. It also marked the 2012 distribution of more than $36 million to customers on TXU Energy electricity plans eligible for cash back. Earlier this year, thousands received as much as 3 percent or more of their annual electricity purchases in cash back in the form of Visa® prepaid cards.

TXU Energy received thousands of entries in the sweepstakes, which ran between Jan. 9 and March 31. The promotion was open to anyone 18 or older and living in a competitive electricity market in Texas, including TXU Energy customers and customers of other providers. Participants entered through a dedicated tab on the company’s Facebook page. New TXU Energy customers were automatically entered, and participants could also enter by mail. No purchase was necessary to enter or win.
According to the ClickFox 2012 Brand Loyalty Survey, 54 percent of consumers say the best way a company can build loyalty with them is by providing exemplary, 24/7 customer service and rewarding them for purchases, feedback and referrals.
