Buy Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFLs)
Replace that halogen torchiere with a compact fluorescent torchiere and save up to $30 per year. In fact, using just $50 worth of CFLs in your home can save you more than $375!3 And if you replace all of your old incandescent bulbs as they burn out, with new compact fluorescent bulbs, you could cut your light bulb energy usage by up to 75%.
By partnering with Energy Federation, Inc. (EFI), a leader in energy efficiency and conservation products, TXU Energy is helping you experience the value of CFLs firsthand. Order your CFLs quickly and easily online today.
Be sure to recycle CFLs properly by taking them to a household hazardous waste collection center or a CFL recycling drop-off location4.
1Cash back loyalty reward payable in January for the previous calendar year to eligible customers in good standing as of the payout date who have remained a TXU Energy customer continuously from date of enrollment on the plan. Reward fulfilled with prepaid card, subject to terms and conditions of card issuer. TXU Energy reserves the right in its sole discretion to substitute a check of equal value for the prepaid card.
2The only circumstance in which the price could change during the minimum term is to reflect actual changes in law or regulatory charges as described in the Electricity Facts Label (EFL).
3 Savings based on TXU Energy CFL Sampler Kit of 7 bulbs replacing same number of incandescent equivalent bulbs and 3 hours per day usage of each CFL over the average CFL lifetime of 7 years, at an electric rate of 12.4 cents/kWh.
4 CFLs contain a very small amount of mercury sealed within the glass tubing - an average of 5 milligrams - about the amount that would cover the tip of a ballpoint pen. Mercury currently is an essential component of CFLs and is what allows the bulb to be an efficient light source. No mercury is released when the bulbs are intact or in use. CFLs are made of glass and can break if dropped or roughly handled. Be careful when removing the bulb from its packaging, installing it or replacing it. Always screw and unscrew the lamp by its base (not the glass), and never forcefully twist the CFL into a light socket. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends that consumers take advantage of available local recycling options for compact fluorescent light bulbs. Consumer can contact their local municipal solid waste agency directly, or go to www.epa.gov/bulbrecycling or www.earth911.org to identify recycling options.
