Washer and Dryer Tips
You'd be surprised, but with just a few minor adjustments in how you use your dishwasher, washer, and dryer, you'll not only save on costs. You'll also help the environment.
Dishwasher
Use a lighter cycle for lightly-soiled dishes, air dry your dishes instead of using the drying heater, and wash full loads whenever possible. Your washer uses about the same amount of energy regardless of how many dishes are being washed.
Washer
Again, wash full loads whenever possible. By combining clothes, you reduce the number of loads you wash, which in turn reduces your energy use.Dryer
Don't overload the dryer or allow lint to build up in your filter, as this causes your dryer to work harder. Also, dry light and heavy items separately, as light items take less time. Periodically inspect your dryer vent to ensure it's not blocked. This will not only save energy but may prevent a fire hazard.Water Heater
Lower the temperature of your water heater. This not only saves energy, it reduces the chance of scalding. A 10°F reduction in temperature saves about 13% of your water heating costs. For an average family, this amounts to savings of up to $30 to $60 per year on an electric water heater.
