Renewable Energy Pays for the Environment – and for You

Do you generate your own energy with solar panels or wind turbines? Earn money when they produce more electricity than you use. The TXU Energy Clean Energy Credit Program is our way of saying thanks for your commitment to the environment.

When you install a Distributed Renewable Generation (DRG) system like a solar panel or wind turbine at home, we’ll buy surplus electricity (known as "outflow") generated by your system by applying a credit to your monthly electricity bill in those months where you have outflow. It’s another way of reducing your electricity bill even more.

Getting Started is Easy

  1. Sign and submit a TXU Energy Clean Energy Credit Program for Surplus DRG Agreement. Click here to download a copy. You can submit the signed agreement by either emailing a PDF of the completed signed agreement to, or faxing the signed agreement to the attention of Contract Management at 972-556-6112. If you have any questions about the agreement, please click here.
  2. You’ll also need to sign an Interconnection Agreement with your Transmission and Distribution Utility, or TDU. Not sure who your TDU is? You can find a handy list of TDUs and contact information here.
  3. Your TDU will provision your meter and let us know when your renewable energy profile is complete, so you can start earning your credit.1

Getting Credit
You’ll earn a monthly bill credit (labeled on your TXU Energy invoice as “Clean Energy Credit”) that begins within 45 calendar days after you’ve submitted the documents above, and your TDU lets us know you’re good to go. Many Texas electricity providers don’t offer credits for surplus electricity, so remember you’ll need to remain a TXU Energy customer to enjoy this benefit.
