FAQ's:

Q: What is TXU Energy Average Monthly Billing?
A: It's a program that helps you smooth out seasonal highs and lows in your monthly electricity bills, so you have more predictable monthly payments. It's great for your budget!

Q: Am I eligible?
A: You're eligible if you're a TXU Energy residential customer and you don't have:

  • An active Installment Plan

  • An active Deferral

  • A balance that's more than 30 days past due.  (Once the balance is paid in full, you're eligible.)

Q: Is there a fee for this plan?
A: No, it's absolutely free! There's no fee to participate in TXU Energy Average Monthly Billing.

Q:  What happens if I'm on TXU Energy Average Monthly Billing and have a balance more than 30 days past due?
A:  Your account may be removed from the program if you have a balance that's more than 30 days past due. If you have a credit on your account that offsets the past due amount, then you're fine.

Q:  Can I sign up even if I don't have 12 months of prior bills to calculate an average?
A:  Yes, you can.

Q:  Will I pay less or more while on TXU Energy Average Monthly Billing?
A:  With this program, you don't pay less or more. It simply smoothes out seasonal highs and lows in your monthly electricity bills so you have more predictable monthly payments.

Q: Will I be able to pay the same amount each month?
A:  Your bill amount will vary a small amount each month, but it will be much more predictable and easier to budget for. You'll have peace of mind knowing that instead of dealing with seasonal fluctuations that could be as much as hundreds of dollars; you'll see very small changes from bill to bill. For the average home, the fluctuations will typically range between $5 and $15 a month.

Q: What is the cumulative balance, and why is it part of my average bill?
A:  The Cumulative Balance is the running total of the difference between your actual electricity charges and what you have paid using the average monthly billed amounts.

Each month 10% of this balance is added to or subtracted from your average monthly billing calculation.

Your average monthly billing calculation is based on your historical electricity bills, but because of weather or lifestyle changes your future bills won't always match your past bills.

By tracking the Cumulative Balance and applying a small portion each month, it prevents the need for a surprise "true-up" during the year.

Q: My actual charges went down but my average monthly billing amount went up. Why?
A: Your average monthly billing amount consists of an average of your past bills, plus 10% of the Cumulative Balance - (that is, the difference between the costs of your actual electricity usage vs. your average monthly billing amounts).

So even though your actual charges may go down, the average monthly billing amount is a reflection of your historical usage.  In the end, it all balances out and enables you to pay a relatively consistent amount instead of large seasonal fluctuations.

Q: Can I keep TXU Energy Average Monthly Billing if I change to another TXU Energy plan?
A: Yes, you may continue on this program if you change to another TXU Energy plan. In fact, you can choose to sign up or leave the program at any time.

Q: What happens if I leave TXU Energy Average Monthly Billing?
A: When you leave the program, the Cumulative Balance (either a credit or a debit) will be applied to your next bill. If your Cumulative Balance is a credit, we'll deduct the credit from any balance you might owe. If your Cumulative Balance is a debit, it will be added to the balance on your next bill.
